SXSW London / 2025 · Creator Programs at Scale

01 / Topics

What I talk about.

  • Creator programs at scale

How to build a creator ecosystem from zero to hundreds of thousands, and make it real infrastructure, not a campaign.

  • Community as a growth engine

Why community belongs in product, not support, and how connected players drive retention, spend, and acquisition.

  • Player-first game development

Giving players a genuine seat at the table, from community-designed maps to fan-driven in-game decisions.

  • Building high-trust teams

Hiring well, developing leaders, and building cultures with the ambition to do work that does not exist yet.

Medium bio

Ryan Lighton is Head of Community at Supercell and a member of the company's marketing leadership team. Over more than a decade he has built Supercell's community function into a full growth engine: a team of around 100 people across four disciplines (community, creators, content, and technology), a mix of full-time staff and dedicated contractors. He built the Creator Program from zero to more than 290,000 creators, was the first community manager for Brawl Stars, and helped pioneer the developer-video format that became Brawl Talk. He is based in Helsinki.

Long bio

Ryan Lighton is Head of Community at Supercell, the studio behind Clash of Clans, Brawl Stars, Clash Royale, and Hay Day, and a member of the company's marketing leadership team. He came to Supercell as a player. A Clash of Clans subreddit moderator, he was flown to Finland for a fan event, joined the company, and never left. More than a decade later he leads one of the most unusual community organizations in mobile gaming: a team of around 100 people across four disciplines (community, creators, content, and an in-game technology group), a mix of full-time staff and dedicated contractors, all built to turn player passion into superfans, and superfans into growth. Along the way he built Supercell's Creator Program from zero to more than 290,000 creators, was the first community manager for Brawl Stars, faked the game's death to stage its global launch, and helped pioneer the developer-video format that became Brawl Talk. He works from Helsinki.
